I get this for a slightly different but linked reason. I'm really short sighted and on the few occasions when I've had a problem with my glasses and not able to use them, it's as if I can't hear either. As you say, there's a kind of disconnect. If one sense isn't functioning well, I seem to lose the edge of all the others. I agree also about the importance of touch - making art for me is now about so much more than the hand/eye coordination that I was originally taught - it's taken many many years to realise this fully. Thanks for a great essay 🙏🏻

This was such an interesting read. I’ve realised that I need complete silence while I work and I definitely can’t listen to music while I paint because I can’t hear what my eyes, and I’m guessing my others senses, are telling me. It’s fascinating how everything is connected.
